KEEPING CHRIS’ PASSION OF BASKETBALL ALIVE

A Little About Chris.

Chris Bendle was a Scappoose native, born in 2000, and lived his whole life in the community. He cared about everyone, loved Scappoose, and envisioned living in the area his entire life. From a young age, Christopher played T-ball, soccer, baseball, basketball and one year of football, but basketball was his first love in sports.

As a sophomore at Scappoose High School, Chris earned a position on the varsity baseball team. During his junior and senior years, he played varsity basketball. Chris played basketball for Roots Academy AAU. During his senior year at Scappoose High School, Chris earned First Team All-League and a position on the North AOCA All–Stars. Chris was second in the Cowapa League in scoring at 23.5 points per game and first in the league for rebounds, averaging 10.5 rebounds per game. Chris tried out and earned a position for the Portland Community College Panthers basketball team.

Chris was known for his hustle and toughness on the court, along with his drive to achieve and his passion to win. Chris always demonstrated great sportsmanship on the court as well as off the court, with his teammates and with those he played against. Throughout Chris’ athletic career, coaches always said he was the first to arrive and the last to leave.

His Portland Community College Teammates nicknamed him “No miss Chris” because he loved making his three point shot. Christopher’s tag line to his coach, Tony Broadous, when he was red shirting was, “Every practice will be my game”. The Chris Bendle Basketball Scholarship was established to honor Chris’s passion, drive and dedication to the sport he loved.
